In Greek mythology, which goddess helped create Pandora by giving her beauty and grace?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Aphrodite helped create Pandora by giving her beauty and grace.

Hesiod presents Pandora as a divinely assembled woman. Hephaestus forms her from earth at Zeus’s command, and the gods provide qualities that make her attractive and persuasive. Aphrodite contributes beauty, while other gods provide gifts such as clothing, adornment, skill, and speech.

The name Pandora means “all-gifted” or “all-giving,” depending on how the Greek compound is interpreted. In *Works and Days*, the gifts are part of a larger divine plan to punish humanity after Prometheus gave humans fire. Pandora therefore represents more than a curious individual: she is the instrument through which suffering enters human life in Hesiod’s account.

Modern retellings often assign a single creator or a single gift to Pandora, but Hesiod’s version distributes her making among several gods. Aphrodite’s role is specifically connected with attractiveness, not with the jar itself or the warning about opening it.
