In Greek mythology, Athena clothed Pandora and taught her handicraft.
Athena was the goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, weaving, and skilled crafts. In the Pandora story, she gives the newly formed woman clothing and instruction in work with the hands. This contribution is one part of a larger sequence in which several gods help prepare Pandora.
The myth therefore presents Pandora as carefully equipped rather than as an accidental or unfinished being. Her beauty, clothing, skills, and mental qualities all serve Zeus’s design after Prometheus’s theft of fire.
Later retellings sometimes assign all of Pandora’s gifts to a single deity, but Hesiod’s account distributes them among several gods. Athena’s role should also not be confused with Aphrodite’s: Aphrodite is linked with beauty and desire, while Athena supplies craft and clothing in this episode.
