In Greek mythology, which god was Pandora’s maker?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was Pandora’s maker.

Hesiod describes Zeus ordering Hephaestus to shape Pandora from earth. Hephaestus was the divine smith, a god associated with fire, metalworking, craftsmanship, and skilled manufacture, so the story assigns him the practical task of forming the first woman. Other gods then contribute gifts or qualities to her.

This detail appears in the creation sequence of Hesiod’s Works and Days. The myth follows Zeus’s anger after Prometheus gives fire to humanity. Pandora is presented as a divinely fashioned figure sent into the human world as part of Zeus’s response, rather than as a naturally born mortal woman.

Later retellings often simplify the scene by saying that all the gods created Pandora together. That is broadly consistent with the idea of divine gifts, but Hephaestus is the specific god credited with molding or fashioning her in Hesiod’s account.
