In Greek mythology, which god taught Pandora the skills associated with weaving?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Athena taught Pandora the skills associated with weaving.

Hesiod’s description of Pandora includes a series of divine contributions. Athena, the goddess strongly associated with crafts and textile work, gives Pandora instruction connected with weaving and clothing. Hephaestus creates her from earth, while other gods add beauty, charm, or deceptive qualities.

These details show that Pandora is not simply born in the ordinary human way. She is deliberately assembled and equipped by the gods as part of Zeus’s response to Prometheus’s theft of fire. Her gifts make her seem desirable, but the surrounding story frames the creation as a dangerous gift to humanity.

Later retellings often compress the entire episode into the phrase “Pandora’s box,” leaving out the individual roles of the gods. Athena’s contribution is one reason Pandora’s presentation includes cultivated skills and an attractive appearance rather than only supernatural qualities.
