In Greek mythology, which god made Pandora’s physical form from clay?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Hephaestus made Pandora’s physical form from clay.

According to Hesiod’s account, Zeus commanded the craftsman god Hephaestus to fashion Pandora. Hephaestus was the divine smith, known for metalwork, invention, and skilled craftsmanship. In the myth, he shaped Pandora from earth, giving the gods a constructed human figure to whom they could present their gifts.

Pandora’s creation is collaborative rather than the work of one god alone. Other deities contribute qualities, clothing, adornment, or abilities. Athena provides instruction in handicraft, Aphrodite gives beauty, and Hermes contributes persuasive speech and a deceptive character in Hesiod’s telling.

This is why the story is not simply a creation myth naming one divine parent. Hephaestus performs the physical making, while Zeus directs the plan and the other gods decorate or equip Pandora. Retellings sometimes credit Zeus alone, but the detailed Greek tradition gives the actual crafting role to Hephaestus.
