In Greek mythology, which god created Pandora's physical form?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Hephaestus created Pandora's physical form. Zeus ordered the divine smith to shape her from earth as part of a punishment aimed at humanity after Prometheus stole fire.

The gods then gave Pandora qualities or gifts. Athena clothed her, Aphrodite granted beauty, and Hermes gave her persuasive speech and a deceptive character. Her name, traditionally interpreted as “all-gifted,” reflects the gifts bestowed on her by the gods.

Hephaestus was the Greek god of fire, metalworking, and craftsmanship. Myths frequently portray him as the maker of extraordinary objects, including divine weapons, armor, and automata. His role in Pandora's creation therefore fits his wider mythological identity.

Some modern retellings describe Pandora as being created by Zeus, but the ancient account in Hesiod's Works and Days assigns the actual formation of her body to Hephaestus. Zeus is the authority who commands the creation and controls the punishment.
