In Greek mythology, which god carried Pandora to Epimetheus?

The story behind the answer

Hermes carried Pandora to Epimetheus in the Greek myth. Hesiod presents Hermes as the messenger who takes Zeus’s created woman to humanity after the gods have equipped her with various gifts and qualities.

Hermes is the Olympian god associated with messages, travel, boundaries, trade, and transitions. His role in transporting Pandora matches his wider mythological function as a divine intermediary who moves between gods and humans.

In Hesiod’s account, Hermes also gives Pandora a voice and a deceptive or crafty mind. Zeus then directs her to Epimetheus, whose name means “afterthought.” Although Prometheus had warned his brother not to accept gifts from Zeus, Epimetheus accepts Pandora.

The story is sometimes simplified so that Zeus personally delivers Pandora. In the detailed Hesiodic narrative, however, Hermes performs the delivery. This is one reason Hermes appears in many retellings as an active participant in the myth rather than merely a messenger in the background.
