In Greek mythology, Epimetheus married Pandora after receiving her despite a warning.
Epimetheus was a Titan associated with hindsight and is the brother of Prometheus. Prometheus warned him not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora when she was sent to him. Their union places Pandora within the human world and connects her arrival with the later opening of the jar.
The contrast between the brothers is central to the myth. Prometheus represents foresight, while Epimetheus is linked with thinking after an event has happened. Their names and actions create a moral contrast about planning, judgment, and regret.
Epimetheus is sometimes mistaken for Prometheus because both are Titans involved in humanity’s early history. Prometheus steals fire and suffers Zeus’s punishment; Epimetheus receives Pandora and becomes her husband. The two roles should not be merged.
