In Greek mythology, which brother of Prometheus accepted Pandora?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Prometheus’s brother Epimetheus accepted Pandora.

Hesiod presents Epimetheus as the brother who received Pandora despite Prometheus’s warning. The name Epimetheus is commonly explained as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. That contrast reflects their different decisions in the myth.

Prometheus recognized the danger of accepting a gift from Zeus and advised his brother to refuse it. Epimetheus nevertheless took Pandora into his home. When the container was opened, harmful forces spread among humanity, making his acceptance a turning point in the story.

Epimetheus is not the same figure as Prometheus, although the two are frequently confused because both belong to the Titan family and appear together in myths about early humanity. Epimetheus also appears in other Greek myths, including the story of his daughter Pyrrha, who survives the great flood with Deucalion.
