In Greek mythology, what was the name of the city ruled by King Priam during the Trojan War?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Troy was the city ruled by King Priam during the Trojan War.

Troy, also called Ilium or Ilion, was the stronghold defended by Priam and his sons, including Hector and Paris. The war began in myth after Paris took Helen, the wife of Menelaus, to Troy. A coalition of Greek forces then besieged the city, with Agamemnon serving as their leader.

Homer’s Iliad covers only a short episode late in the war, especially the conflict between Achilles and Agamemnon and the death of Hector. The famous wooden horse appears in later parts of the broader Trojan War tradition rather than as the central event of the Iliad itself.

Archaeological remains identified with Troy stand at Hisarlik in modern Turkey. Archaeology confirms a settlement with multiple destruction layers, but it cannot prove every supernatural detail in the literary myths.
