In Greek mythology, what was Pandora’s husband’s brother called?
Answer
Prometheus
Answer
Prometheus
In Greek mythology, Pandora’s husband’s brother was Prometheus.
Pandora’s husband was Epimetheus, and Prometheus was Epimetheus’s brother. Both belong to the Titan generation, although Prometheus became especially famous for helping humanity. His name is traditionally associated with foresight, whereas Epimetheus’s name is associated with thinking after an event.
The brothers’ contrasting characters shape the Pandora story. Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora. In Hesiod’s account, Zeus had sent her as part of the punishment connected with Prometheus’s theft of fire. Pandora’s opening of the jar then allowed evils to spread among humans.
This family relationship is sometimes obscured by modern retellings that focus only on Pandora and the container. Prometheus is not Pandora’s husband; he is her husband’s brother. He also appears in a separate myth in which Zeus punishes him for giving fire to humanity.
