In Greek mythology, Pandora’s husband Epimetheus was the brother of Prometheus.
Prometheus and Epimetheus are Titans in Greek myth, and their names express contrasting ideas. Prometheus is traditionally associated with forethought, while Epimetheus suggests afterthought. This relationship matters because Prometheus recognizes the danger of Zeus’s gifts and warns his brother not to accept them.
Epimetheus nevertheless accepts Pandora. In the story, her arrival is connected to Zeus’s retaliation after Prometheus gives fire to humanity. Pandora’s opening of the jar then releases forces that had previously been kept away from humans.
The brothers are sometimes confused with other famous mythological pairs, especially Atlas and Prometheus, because all appear in stories involving the Olympian gods and the Titans. Atlas, however, is a different Titan, while Epimetheus is the family member directly connected to Pandora’s marriage.
