In Greek mythology, Pandora’s daughter Pyrrha was married to Deucalion.
Deucalion is the son of Prometheus in the most familiar version of the Greek flood myth, while Pyrrha is connected to Pandora through her parentage. Zeus sends a flood to destroy humanity, and Deucalion and Pyrrha survive by taking refuge in a chest or boat-like vessel. Their survival makes them the Greek myth’s principal pair of human restorers.
After the waters recede, the couple asks Themis how humanity can be renewed. They follow her cryptic instruction to throw the bones of their mother behind them, understanding “mother” as Earth. Stones thrown by Deucalion become men, and stones thrown by Pyrrha become women.
This story is related to Pandora but is not the same episode as opening the container. Pandora belongs to the earlier punishment narrative, while Pyrrha and Deucalion belong to the later flood and repopulation tradition.
