In Greek mythology, Prometheus steals fire from Zeus for humanity before Pandora appears.
Prometheus is a Titan who sides with humans and gives them fire after taking it from the gods. Fire represents practical knowledge, technology, cooking, warmth, and the ability to perform crafts. Zeus treats the theft as an offense because it gives humans a power associated with the divine realm.
Hesiod connects this act directly to the creation and dispatch of Pandora. Zeus orders the gods to make her as part of a punishment for humanity and for Prometheus’s defiance. Pandora’s story is therefore the next stage in the same conflict between Zeus and the fire-bringing Titan.
Different classical sources tell the theft in varying ways, including accounts involving a concealed ember or a divine fire source. The stable central fact is that Prometheus gives fire to humans and receives punishment from Zeus.
