In Greek myth, Pandora’s creation was Zeus’s punishment for which Titan’s theft of fire?

The story behind the answer

In Greek myth, Pandora’s creation was Zeus’s punishment for Prometheus’s theft of fire.

Prometheus steals fire and gives it to humanity after an earlier conflict with Zeus over sacrificial portions. Hesiod presents Zeus’s creation of Pandora as a consequence of this defiance. Pandora is therefore not an isolated character introduced without context; her story belongs to the larger Prometheus myth.

Prometheus is a Titan associated with intelligence and foresight. His act benefits humans by giving them fire, but Zeus responds by arranging a deceptive gift that brings suffering into mortal life. Pandora is made by Hephaestus and equipped by several gods before being sent to Epimetheus.

Some later versions make Prometheus a heroic champion of humanity and soften the punitive framework. Hesiod’s account, however, explicitly connects Pandora with Zeus’s retaliation against Prometheus.
