Garm is the giant wolf who guards Helheim in God of War Ragnarök.
Kratos and Atreus encounter Garm during their journey through the realm of the dead. The enormous creature can tear open rifts between realms, creating a serious threat because its movements allow danger to spread beyond Helheim.
Garm is often confused with Fenrir, another important wolf in Ragnarök's story. In the game, Fenrir is tied to Atreus's emotional storyline, while Garm is the chained guardian encountered in Helheim. Sköll and Hati are different wolf figures associated with the sun and moon in Norse mythology and the game's wider lore.
The encounter also connects gameplay events with the game's treatment of identity, souls, and prophecy. Garm's role is more specific than simply being a large enemy: he is a realm-threatening guardian whose escape drives a major sequence.
