In God of War II, what is the name of the giant statue Kratos battles at the beginning?

The story behind the answer

In God of War II, Kratos battles the Colossus of Rhodes at the beginning of the game.

The Colossus is a gigantic animated statue based on the real Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In the game’s opening sequence, Kratos attacks the Greek city of Rhodes after becoming the new God of War. Zeus brings the statue to life and uses it against him.

The battle introduces God of War II’s central conflict: Kratos is betrayed by Zeus, who strips him of his power and leaves him near death. Gaia, the Titan, rescues Kratos and begins helping him pursue the Sisters of Fate. Their power may allow him to travel back in time and prevent Zeus’s betrayal.

The fictional Colossus should not be confused with the historical statue. The real monument was traditionally said to have stood at the harbor of Rhodes, but it was destroyed by an earthquake only decades after its construction. The game uses the famous landmark as a dramatic opening boss.
