In God of War (2018), Asgard is the realm ruled by the Aesir gods. Odin governs the realm, and Thor and Baldur are among the Aesir connected to it.
Asgard is part of the game's nine-realm cosmology, which is linked by the World Tree, Yggdrasil. Unlike several other realms visited during the story, Asgard is not freely accessible in the 2018 game. Its absence helps preserve the mystery surrounding Odin and the power structure behind the threats facing Kratos and Atreus.
Asgard is often confused with Midgard because both are central to the story. Midgard is the main human world where much of the game takes place, while Asgard is the divine stronghold of the Aesir. The game draws on Norse names but adapts their geography and narrative roles for its own fictional setting.
