In Final Fantasy VII, what is the name of Cloud's signature weapon?

In Final Fantasy VII, Cloud’s signature weapon is the Buster Sword. The enormous, single-edged blade is Cloud Strife’s defining weapon and the first weapon most players associate with him.

Cloud receives the Buster Sword from Zack Fair, a SOLDIER operative whose story becomes central to Final Fantasy VII. Zack had inherited it from Angeal Hewley, so the weapon represents a chain of mentorship, friendship, and sacrifice rather than merely being a powerful piece of equipment.

The Buster Sword is Cloud’s starting weapon and remains visually important even when he equips stronger weapons later. Its oversized design helped establish Final Fantasy VII’s more mechanical, cinematic style, while Cloud’s distinctive silhouette made the sword instantly recognizable in promotional art and later appearances.

A common mix-up is Masamune, Sephiroth’s exceptionally long sword, or Ultima Weapon, Cloud’s strongest standard weapon in the original game. Apocalypse is also a Cloud weapon, but none of those is his signature blade.
