In Final Fantasy VI, what is the name of the colosseum in the World of Ruin?

The story behind the answer

In Final Fantasy VI, the colosseum in the World of Ruin is called Dragon's Neck Coliseum.

The facility is located on a small island in the World of Ruin and becomes accessible after the apocalyptic reshaping of the planet. It is operated by the eccentric tycoon and former gambler Siegfried, who challenges the party to wager items in exchange for battles. Rather than selecting a normal party fight, the player offers a weapon or other item, and one character fights alone against a chosen opponent.

Dragon's Neck Coliseum is especially important because it turns unwanted equipment into a source of rare rewards. Victories can yield powerful weapons, armor, and other items, but the wager is consumed whether the combatant wins or loses. The battles are therefore both a challenge and a risk-management system.

The name is often shortened informally to “the colosseum,” which can cause confusion with locations from other Final Fantasy games. Battle Square belongs to Final Fantasy VII's Gold Saucer, while Arena is a generic description rather than the facility's proper name. The World of Ruin itself begins after Kefka disrupts the Warring Triad and devastates the world.
