In Doctor Who, which 2010 episode features the Doctor facing the sealed Pandorica?
Answer
The Pandorica Opens
In Doctor Who, the 2010 episode featuring the sealed Pandorica is “The Pandorica Opens.”
The episode is the twelfth story of Doctor Who’s fifth modern series and was written by showrunner Steven Moffat. It stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, with Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, and Alex Kingston as River Song.
The Pandorica is presented as a legendary prison containing an unknown threat. The episode deliberately draws on the cultural idea of Pandora’s box, but changes the object into a mysterious containment device connected to the Doctor’s enemies. Its contents and purpose are revealed across the two-part series finale, completed by “The Big Bang.”
The title is sometimes confused with the finale’s second episode because both stories revolve around the same mystery. “The Pandorica Opens” is the first part, while “The Big Bang” concludes the arc.
