Players encounter Imperius during Diablo III’s later story as the mortal hero reaches the High Heavens. His distrust of humans creates tension even while the angels face an invasion by demonic armies.
Imperius is often confused with Tyrael, the Archangel of Justice, who becomes closely connected with humanity and serves as a major ally. Malthael is the former Archangel of Wisdom and the central antagonist of Reaper of Souls, while Auriel represents Hope.
