In Diablo II, the Horadric Staff is assembled to gain access to Tal Rasha’s chamber.

Act II’s main quest requires players to recover the Staff of Kings and the Viper Amulet, then combine them in the Horadric Cube. The resulting Horadric Staff is taken to the Tal Rasha’s Tomb area and inserted into the orifice in the true tomb’s chamber.

This opens the way to Duriel, the act’s boss, and advances the story about the imprisonment of Baal. The staff is therefore both a quest item and a key part of the act’s puzzle-like progression.

Players sometimes confuse it with Khalim’s Will, which belongs to Act III and is used to destroy the Compelling Orb. The Grand Vizier is a monster encountered in Act V, not an item.
