In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there are five golden tickets.
Willy Wonka hides the tickets inside Wonka Bars as part of a worldwide contest. Each child who finds one receives an invitation to tour the mysterious chocolate factory, along with a lifetime supply of chocolate. The five winners are Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee, and Charlie Bucket.
Charlie is the fifth and final winner. His first two Wonka Bars contain no ticket, but after his family becomes even poorer, he finds money in the snow and buys another bar. Inside it is the last golden ticket, transforming his hopes of seeing the factory into reality.
A common mix-up comes from film adaptations and related Wonka stories, which may add or alter details. In the original novel, however, the contest is explicitly based on five tickets. The number is also important to the plot: the factory tour is designed to test five children, with Charlie ultimately proving to be the worthy heir Wonka has been seeking.
