In Avatar, Eywa is the Na’vi name for the spiritual network connecting Pandora’s life. The Na’vi understand Eywa as a living, guiding presence linked to animals, plants, ancestors, and the moon’s biological systems.
The film presents Pandora as an interconnected ecosystem rather than a collection of unrelated organisms. Na’vi neural tendrils allow them to form tsaheylu, a bond with animals, plants, and one another. Through this connection, the film shows communication and shared biological information as central parts of Na’vi culture.
Eywa is sometimes described simply as a goddess, but the film also portrays Eywa through ecological and network-like imagery. This ambiguity is important: Eywa functions both as a sacred spiritual reality and as an explanation for Pandora’s planetary web of life. Eywa is not the name of the moon, its mineral, or the flying creature called a toruk.
