In Avatar: The Way of Water, which Pandora clan lives among the reefs and ocean?

The story behind the answer

In Avatar: The Way of Water, the Metkayina are the Pandora clan that lives among reefs and ocean environments.

The Metkayina are a reef-dwelling Na’vi people led by Tonowari and Ronal. Their bodies and customs are adapted to aquatic life, including broad arms and tails suited to swimming. Their home is centered on the coastal reef settlement of Awa’atlu.

The Sully family seeks refuge with the Metkayina after leaving the forest home of the Omaticaya. The story uses this move to introduce a different Na’vi society and to explore Pandora’s oceans, marine animals, and reef ecology.

The Metkayina should not be confused with the Omaticaya, the forest clan central to the first Avatar film. The Olangi are another Na’vi clan associated with the open plains, while the Tipani are mentioned in Avatar-related lore.
