In astronomy, Pandora is a moon orbiting which planet?
Answer
Saturn
Answer
Saturn
In astronomy, Pandora is a moon orbiting Saturn.
Pandora is a small, irregular satellite of Saturn. It acts as an outer shepherd moon of Saturn’s narrow F ring, helping shape and confine the ring material through gravitational interactions. The other principal shepherd of the F ring is Prometheus, giving the system names drawn from Greek mythology.
Voyager 1 images revealed Pandora in 1980, and the International Astronomical Union later recognized the name. Because the moon is small and reflective, its physical properties and exact dynamical effects have been studied through spacecraft observations and orbital analysis.
Pandora is not one of Saturn’s large spherical moons such as Titan or Rhea. It is a much smaller irregular body. The pairing with Prometheus can also cause confusion: both are Saturnian moons, while their names come from characters in Greek myth rather than from a separate planetary system.
