In the Lancelot-Grail Cycle, Corbenic is the castle associated with the Holy Grail.
Corbenic is ruled by King Pelles, a descendant of Joseph of Arimathea and the guardian of the Grail in the cycle’s narrative. It is also the place where Elaine gives birth to Galahad, whose purity allows him to complete the Grail quest.
The castle is presented as mysterious and spiritually charged. Its location and appearances vary across medieval romances, and the name can be spelled in several ways, including Corbenic and Corbin. These variations reflect the transmission of the stories through different manuscripts and languages.
Corbenic is easily confused with Munsalvaesche, the Grail castle in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival, and Monsalvat, Wagner’s adaptation. Those names belong to separate traditions rather than being interchangeable names for one fixed castle.
