In Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Priory School,” the kidnapped boy is Lord Saltire.
Lord Saltire is the son of the Duke of Holdernesse and a pupil at the Priory School. His disappearance triggers a large search across the countryside and brings Holmes and Watson to the school and surrounding moorland.
The investigation includes the murder of a German master, Heidegger, and tracks such as bicycle marks and hoofprints. Holmes eventually connects the disappearance to a plot involving the Duke’s estranged wife and her secretary.
The story appeared in 1904 in The Strand Magazine and later in The Return of Sherlock Holmes. It is distinct from “The Adventure of the Three Students,” another school-related Holmes mystery.
