Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince was originally written in French.
The novella, titled Le Petit Prince in French, was written and illustrated by French aviator and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It was first published in New York by Reynal & Hitchcock in 1943, while Saint-Exupéry was living in the United States during the Second World War.
The story follows a young prince who travels between asteroids and encounters figures such as a pilot, a fox, a rose, and a businessman. Its simple language and philosophical themes have made it popular with both children and adults.
The book has been translated into hundreds of languages and dialects, which can make readers encounter different titles and wording. Those translations are not the original text: the source edition is French, and its illustrations were also created by Saint-Exupéry.
