In ancient Greek mythology, Hephaestus fashioned Pandora from earth before the other gods gave her their gifts.
Hesiod describes Zeus ordering Hephaestus to shape Pandora, using earth as the material. Hephaestus was the Olympian god of fire, metalworking, craftsmanship, and smithing, making him the mythologically appropriate craftsman for creating a figure assembled through divine artistry.
After Hephaestus made her, other gods contributed qualities or possessions. Hermes, for example, is associated with giving Pandora speech and a deceptive character in Hesiod’s account. This division of roles is why Hephaestus is the correct answer to the creation question even though many gods participate in Pandora’s completion.
