In Alien, the commercial spacecraft carrying the crew is called the Nostromo.
The Nostromo is a massive towing vessel transporting a refinery and mineral cargo. Its crew is awakened from suspended animation after the ship’s computer, Mother, detects a transmission from a nearby world. The investigation of that signal leads to the discovery of a dangerous extraterrestrial organism.
Ridley Scott directed Alien, which was released in 1979. Sigourney Weaver played warrant officer Ellen Ripley, while Tom Skerritt played captain Dallas. The screenplay was written by Dan O’Bannon, and the creature’s visual design was created by Swiss artist H. R. Giger. The Nostromo is sometimes confused with the Sulaco, the military ship featured in the sequel Aliens, or with Prometheus and Covenant from later prequel films.
