In Albanian mythology, the serpent-like dragon that causes storms and fights the winged hero Drangue is Kulshedra.
Kulshedra is a powerful female dragon or serpent in Albanian folklore. Stories associate her with storms, drought, floods, and destructive weather. She may be imagined with multiple heads and enormous size, although descriptions vary among regional traditions.
The Kulshedra’s traditional opponent is the Drangue, a heroic figure often described as winged and gifted with supernatural strength. Their combat explains violent thunderstorms: the Drangue’s weapons and attacks are represented in some accounts by thunder and lightning.
The creature is sometimes connected with the earlier Albanian serpent figure Bolla. In some versions, a Bolla develops into a Kulshedra after living for many years, but folklore descriptions are not uniform. Kulshedra is distinct from Zana and Ora, which are other supernatural beings in Albanian tradition.
