A waltz is the formal dance commonly performed by a quinceañera and her court.
The dance is usually rehearsed in advance and presented at the reception. The celebrant may dance with a group of attendants, often called damas and chambelanes, and may also share a separate dance with her father or another honored family member.
The waltz connects the celebration with European-style formal balls and court presentations. In practice, many modern quinceañeras combine the traditional waltz with choreographed routines set to popular music, regional dances, or contemporary styles.
There is no single choreography required for every quinceañera. Families may shorten the waltz, add multiple dances, or replace it with another formal presentation. The stable traditional association is with a ceremonial court dance, especially the waltz, rather than with one mandatory song or sequence of steps.
