In a traditional quinceañera shoe-change ceremony, the celebrant often receives high-heeled shoes from her father. The change from flat or low shoes to heels symbolizes a step toward womanhood and increased maturity.
The father, another parent, or a close family member may perform the presentation, depending on the family's circumstances and customs. It is usually staged during the reception and can be followed by the celebrant's first formal dance.
This ritual is not universal. Some families omit it, adapt it, or choose another symbolic presentation. The shoes should therefore be understood as a popular quinceañera custom rather than a required religious act. It also should not be confused with the separate tradition of presenting a tiara, bouquet, Bible, or rosary.
