In a traditional quinceañera court, the male attendants are called chambelanes.
The word comes from Spanish chambelán, meaning a chamberlain or court attendant. In the celebration, chambelanes commonly accompany the quinceañera during the entrance, formal dances, photographs, and other ceremonial moments. Their female counterparts are often called damas.
The number and role of the attendants vary by family, country, and budget. Some celebrations have a full court, while others include only a quinceañera and one escort. Chambelanes should not be confused with padrinos, who are sponsors or honored adult supporters, or with quinceañero, a term for a male celebrating his fifteenth birthday.
