A traditional quinceañera court usually includes 14 damas, representing the honoree’s fourteen years before her fifteenth birthday.
The damas are female attendants who participate in the formal presentation and choreographed dances. In many traditions, they are paired with male attendants, often called chambelanes, creating a ceremonial court around the honoree.
The number is symbolic rather than an unbreakable rule. Modern celebrations may use smaller courts, larger groups, or no court at all, depending on family preferences, budget, venue, and local custom. The court should not be confused with the honoree herself: the 15-year-old celebrant is separate from the 14 attendants traditionally associated with the preceding years.
