Cake is the sweet baked item commonly decorated with a baby’s name or a welcoming message at a traditional baby shower.
Baby-shower cakes often use pastel colors, baby-themed figures, booties, rattles, clouds, animals, or a written message for the expected child. The cake provides a ceremonial dessert while also reinforcing the event’s visual theme. Some hosts order a professionally decorated cake, while others prepare a simple homemade version.
The design may include the baby’s name if the parents have chosen one, but a name is not required. Messages such as “Welcome Baby” are useful when the name is private or undecided. Cakes can also be adapted for twins, adoption celebrations, or gender-neutral events.
A baby-shower cake should not be confused with a diaper cake. A conventional cake is edible; a diaper cake is a decorative arrangement of diapers made to resemble one.
