In a quinceañera, the traditional term for a male member of the court of honor is chambelán. The word is commonly used for an attendant who participates in the formal entrance, dances, or other parts of the celebration.
A traditional court may pair chambelanes with damas, the female attendants. The honoree may also choose a principal chambelán, sometimes called a chambelán de honor, who has a prominent role in the presentation or choreographed dance.
Terminology is not identical everywhere. In some Spanish-speaking communities, families use local labels or avoid gendered titles altogether. A padrino is generally a godparent or sponsor, while a madrina is a female sponsor; those terms do not specifically mean male court attendant.
