In a quinceañera shoe ceremony, the celebrant traditionally receives high heels.
The presentation is commonly performed by the father or another close family member. In a familiar version of the ritual, the quinceañera begins in flat shoes and changes into high-heeled shoes during the celebration.
The footwear represents a formal transition from childhood toward young womanhood. Like many quinceañera customs, the ceremony is symbolic rather than a legal or religious requirement, and families adapt or omit it according to their preferences.
The shoe presentation is sometimes confused with the ceremony involving a last doll. They are separate customs: one centers on footwear and growing up, while the other uses a doll as a childhood symbol. Neither is required at every quinceañera.
