In 2019, which company acquired 21st Century Fox?
Answer
Disney
Answer
Disney
In 2019, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.
The Walt Disney Company announced its intention to buy most of 21st Century Fox on December 14, 2017. The transaction initially involved $52.4 billion in Disney stock, but the final value rose to $71.3 billion in cash and stock after Comcast made a competing bid. Disney also assumed Fox debt. The deal closed on March 20, 2019, after shareholder votes and regulatory approvals.
Disney acquired major entertainment assets, including the 20th Century Fox film and television studios, FX Networks, Star India, and Fox’s stake in Hulu. The purchase significantly expanded Disney’s library and international reach as the company prepared to compete in streaming. Disney later renamed 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures to remove confusion with the separate Fox company.
Not every Fox asset went to Disney. Fox News, the Fox broadcast network, Fox Sports 1, and several other businesses were separated into Fox Corporation, which became a standalone public company on March 19, 2019. Comcast ultimately withdrew from the bidding for the main Fox assets and instead pursued Sky.
