In 2012, which American cereal company acquired the Pringles brand?
Answer
Kellogg's
Answer
Kellogg's
In 2012, Kellogg’s acquired the Pringles brand from Procter & Gamble.
Kellogg’s completed the purchase on May 31, 2012, paying approximately $2.695 billion. The deal expanded Kellogg’s international snacks business and made the company the world’s second-largest snack company at the time. Pringles had been created and marketed by Procter & Gamble since its launch in 1968.
The acquisition followed an earlier, failed transaction. In 2011, Procter & Gamble agreed to sell Pringles to Diamond Foods for about $2.35 billion, but that deal collapsed after accounting problems delayed the transaction. Kellogg’s then stepped in and secured the brand.
A frequent mix-up is attributing Pringles to PepsiCo because PepsiCo owns Frito-Lay brands such as Lay’s, Doritos, and Cheetos. Pringles was not a PepsiCo brand in 2012. Kellogg’s later became part of Kellanova’s corporate history, and Mars agreed to acquire Kellanova in 2024, but those later ownership changes do not alter the answer to the 2012 question.
