In 2008, which brewery did InBev acquire to form Anheuser-Busch InBev?

The story behind the answer

In 2008, InBev acquired Anheuser-Busch to form Anheuser-Busch InBev.

The combination joined Belgian-Brazilian brewer InBev with Anheuser-Busch, the American brewer best known for brands such as Budweiser and Bud Light. InBev completed the acquisition in November 2008 after an initially contentious approach and shareholder approval. The agreed consideration was $70 per share in cash, for an aggregate equity value of about $52 billion.

The new company adopted the name Anheuser-Busch InBev, commonly shortened to AB InBev. Anheuser-Busch became a wholly owned subsidiary, while the combined group retained a global portfolio that included Budweiser, Stella Artois and Beck’s.

A common mix-up is reversing the parties: InBev was the buyer, and Anheuser-Busch was the acquired brewer. Heineken, SABMiller and Molson Coors were major competitors, not the company purchased in this transaction. The merger made AB InBev one of the world’s largest brewing groups.
