In 2002, who won the Record of the Year Grammy for "Walk On"?

The story behind the answer

In 2002, U2 won the Record of the Year Grammy for “Walk On.” The award recognized the Irish rock band’s performance and the recording’s production and engineering at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards.

“Walk On” appeared on U2’s 2000 album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Written by U2, the song was inspired partly by Burmese political dissident Aung San Suu Kyi, and the band dedicated the recording to her. Its message of perseverance helped give the track significance beyond its polished rock sound.

The 2002 ceremony honored music released during the eligibility period ending in 2001, so the award date and release date can cause confusion. Record of the Year is also sometimes confused with Song of the Year: Record of the Year honors the overall recording, while Song of the Year recognizes songwriting. U2’s win was for the recording itself, with producer credits including Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois.
