How tall was the Athena Parthenos statue in meters?

The story behind the answer

The Athena Parthenos statue was about 12 meters tall. This colossal image of Athena stood inside the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens and was created by the sculptor Phidias in the fifth century BC.

It was a chryselephantine statue, meaning its visible flesh was made from ivory while her clothing, armour, helmet, and other details were covered in gold. Athena held a figure of Nike, the goddess of victory, in one hand and rested the other on her shield. The statue was designed to project the wealth, power, and religious identity of classical Athens.

The original no longer survives, so its exact measurements are reconstructed from ancient descriptions, later copies, archaeological evidence, and the dimensions of the Parthenon's interior. Estimates often describe it as approximately 11.5 to 12 meters high, making 12 meters the standard rounded answer. It is sometimes confused with Athena Promachos, another enormous bronze statue that once stood outdoors on the Acropolis.
