How tall from the floor must a net be in a men's volleyball match?

The story behind the answer

In a men's volleyball match, the top of the net is 7 feet 11.625 inches above the floor at the court's center.

The official metric measurement is 2.43 metres, or 243 centimetres. The height is measured vertically from the playing surface at the center line, rather than from the top or bottom of the net posts. Officials also check the net at the sidelines; its height must remain even and cannot exceed the official height by more than 2 centimetres.

Women's volleyball uses a lower net height of 2.24 metres, or about 7 feet 4 1/8 inches. Junior and age-group competitions may use different heights, so the men's standard should not be applied to every volleyball match.

The net itself is 1 metre wide and roughly 9.5 to 10 metres long. Antennas extend above it to mark the legal crossing space, helping referees judge whether the ball passes between the sidelines.
