Salvador Dalí was 84 years old when he died in 1989.
He was born on 11 May 1904 and died on 23 January 1989. Because his death came several months before his birthday, he had not yet turned 85. Calculating the age from the years alone can therefore produce the incorrect answer of 85.
Dalí spent his final years in Figueres, his birthplace and the location of the museum he helped create. His burial place is beneath the stage of the Dalí Theatre and Museum, where visitors can see his tomb.
His long career covered major changes in modern art. He began exhibiting as a young artist, became closely associated with Surrealism during the 1920s, worked in film and design, and later developed a broad public persona that extended beyond painting.
