The original game's Almanac contains 26 zombie types. In Plants vs. Zombies, the Suburban Almanac records the zombie opponents encountered during the main game and summarizes what makes each one dangerous.
The roster begins with the ordinary Zombie and expands through specialized enemies such as Conehead Zombie, Pole Vaulting Zombie, Buckethead Zombie, Screen Door Zombie, Balloon Zombie, Digger Zombie, and Gargantuar. Each new type changes the defensive problem by adding armor, jumping, tunneling, flight, speed, or heavy strength.
The number 26 refers to the original game's zombie roster, not every zombie introduced across the wider franchise. Later games, regional versions, ports, and spin-offs add many more enemies, which is why larger numbers can appear in fan lists. The figure can also be confused with the original game's 49 available plants, a separate Almanac total.
The Almanac is more than a list: it provides short descriptions and practical hints, often revealing a zombie’s weakness. For example, Balloon Zombie can be grounded by Cactus, while Magnet-shroom can remove metallic equipment such as a bucket or screen door.
