Organizers expected to plant 250 trees along Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River Trail for America250.
The project was associated with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the semiquincentennial commission. The planned route was intended to connect Philadelphia with Valley Forge, another major Pennsylvania site linked to the American Revolution and George Washington’s Continental Army.
The number 250 directly represents the anniversary being commemorated in 2026. Living memorials such as tree plantings give anniversary projects a physical presence that can endure beyond a single ceremony or festival.
This undertaking should not be confused with the planned 76-tree project at Independence National Historical Park. The two initiatives were separate: one used 250 trees along the Schuylkill River Trail, while the other used 76 trees in the historic park and referenced the year 1776.
