Metallica's original The Black Album track listing contains 12 tracks.
The sequence begins with “Enter Sandman” and ends with “The Struggle Within.” Between them are familiar songs including “Sad but True,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Nothing Else Matters.”
The album's 12-song structure helped mark a change from some of Metallica's earlier long-form arrangements. The songs were generally more concise and direct, although several still run for six minutes or more. The complete record has a listed length of 62 minutes and 40 seconds.
The number can cause confusion because later deluxe editions and anniversary box sets add demos, live recordings, alternative mixes, and other material. Those expanded releases contain far more than 12 tracks, but the original studio album's standard track listing contains exactly 12 songs.
